As part of the celebrations of Public Accountancy Week, the Institute of Public Accountants of Nuevo León (ICPNL) honored Gustavo Leal Benavides, founding partner of Leal Benavides y Cía., for a professional career spanning more than 60 years dedicated to public accountancy, auditing, tax consulting, teaching, and institutional participation.
The event was held on Monday, May 25, the date on which Accountant's Day is celebrated, and was organized and led by Robero Cavazos García, current president of the ICPNL. The ceremony brought together members of the accounting community to recognize a professional life linked to service, ethics, the education of new generations, and the strengthening of the profession's institutions.

During the event, the biography of Gustavo Leal Benavides, was read by his son, Gustavo Leal Cueva. It was an especially moving moment, in which the professional dimension of the honoree was joined with a family dimension also built around work, example, and commitment to the profession.
Gustavo Leal Benavides' career formally began in 1967, the year in which he joined the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants (IMCP) and the ICPNL. Since then, he has maintained a constant presence in the institutional life of public accountancy, holding various responsibilities in technical committees, governing bodies, and professional representation forums.
Within the IMCP, he has served as secretary, treasurer, member of the Honor Committee, the Accounting Principles Committee, and the Auditing Principles and Procedures Committee. He also chaired the Professional Ethics Committee and the Bylaws Committee, spaces through which he contributed to strengthening the principles that support the responsible practice of the profession.
Within the ICPNL, he has held responsibilities of particular importance, including the presidency of the Board of Directors from 1990 to 1991, the general vice presidency, the presidency of the Professional Evaluation and Defense Board, participation in the Honor Committee, and his status as a lifetime member of the Advisory Council. He currently serves as general vice president of the ICPNL, confirming a trajectory of active participation that remains ongoing.

Professionally, Gustavo Leal Benavides was managing partner at Gossler, an auditing and consulting firm where he remained from 1971 to 1995. During that period, he held various executive positions, including Executive Director, Director of the Monterrey Office, and Director of the Mexico City Office. His experience also extended to serving as statutory auditor in various companies and institutions.
In 1995, he founded Leal Benavides y Cía., a tax consulting firm through which he has continued his professional work with technical rigor, seriousness, and commitment. Through this firm, he has accompanied companies, institutions, and professionals in the analysis and handling of relevant tax matters.
Subsequently, in 2000, he assumed the presidency of Fiscalia, Tax Information Center, a platform dedicated to the dissemination and analysis of tax information in Mexico. From this space, he has helped bring technical knowledge closer to professionals, companies, and specialists who require timely, reliable, and structured information for their daily practice.
His career also includes significant academic work as a professor at higher education institutions such as Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Universidad Regiomontana, and Universidad del Norte. He has also authored various articles published in Fiscalia, IMEF, and El Norte.

For Leal Benavides y Cía., this recognition holds deep meaning. It represents the public acknowledgment of a professional life dedicated to accountancy, as well as the celebration of the principles that gave rise to and continue to guide our firm: professional responsibility, ongoing study, ethics, discipline, and commitment to our clients and to the business community.
To recognize Gustavo Leal Benavides is to recognize a generation of professionals who understood public accountancy as a technical, institutional, and human profession. His legacy is reflected in the institutions he has strengthened, in the colleagues with whom he has shared his path, in the students he has educated, in the projects he has promoted, and in the professional community that recognizes him as a reference for experience, integrity, and vocation for service.

At Leal Benavides y Cía., we proudly celebrate this well-deserved recognition and express our gratitude to the ICPNL for honoring the career of our founder on such a meaningful date for the accounting profession.
